Teeth Whitening
Bleaching is a common and popular process used to whiten teeth using chemicals(peroxide). Teeth get discoloured due to various reasons, bleaching is done to whiten such teeth. Discoloration occurs in the enamel and can be caused by medication, coffee, tea and cigarettes & also can be caused by your genetic make-up or simply getting older.
Dazzle and frazzle with your brilliance
A bright smile gives the impression of good health and youthfulness. It enhances your self-esteem and gives you greater confidence, possibly a reason why research has shown that job applicants are 58 percent more likely to get a job offer and 53 percent more likely to be offered an increased salary if their teeth are white.
Over time, everyday food and drink can cause out teeth to stain over time. So while your teeth might be healthy and straight, they might be in need for a little brightening. That’s where whitening comes in! Many of our dental patients are thrilled with the results of their whitening because they can see the effects immediately.
Teeth whitening restores the sparkle to teeth that have been discoloured or stained by coffee, tea, soft drinks, tobacco, and other foods. It is a non-invasive, in-clinic procedure that helps you achieve a dazzling smile.
Initial Consultation
Our dental specialist/ dentist will find out the details of your medical and dental history, go through a consultation and examination, and (if necessary) take digital X-rays of your teeth to enable a thorough and detailed diagnosis.
Shade charts may be used to customize the perfect shade of white for your teeth.
Treatment
In-clinic treatment
During the 1-hour whitening procedure, a whitening gel is carefully applied to the teeth. A safe, whitening light is used to activate the gel and bleach away stains on the teeth. Once the gel is activated, it remains on the teeth for 20 minutes until the process is completed.
Home maintenance and touch-up kit
The home maintenance and touch up kit maximises the whitening effect of the treatment. It consists of the following:
a) Upper and lower teeth whitening trays
b) Whitening Gel
This can be used daily before bedtime, up to a maximum of two weeks after your treatment in the clinic
c) Protection Gel
This can be used before bedtime, separately or in conjunction with the whitening gel, as and when teeth sensitivity occurs
Apply gel on the surface of the tray that touches the front surface of your teeth. A small soy bean size for each tooth is sufficient.
Leave the tray on for 10 to 15 minutes (up to a maximum of 1 hour). Then, spit out the gel and rinse your mouth and the trays with cold tap water.
Some pointers to note:
The gel is safe for consumption and is harmless even if you happen to swallow any in the process. The remaining tubes of gel should be refrigerated and you can do “touch-ups” as needed.
Follow Up Care
Some individuals may experience teeth sensitivity during or after treatment, especially when exposed to cold foods and drinks. This is normal and will settle with time.
Teeth whitening is not a permanent solution. One should avoid stain-inducing foods and drinks and/or smoking, so that the effect of teeth whitening can last longer.
Having a proper home care regime and regular professional maintenance every 6 months is important to maintain your whitening as well as oral health. After all, keeping a bright smile is more than just looking great, it is also about keeping your mouth and body healthy.
